The Rebels Of Cordovia Book Review (The Rebel Series Book 1) by Linda Weaver Clarke

There is nothing like a nice, simple love story to put a smile on your face. And that is one of the things that Linda Weaver Clarke does in her Rebels of Cordovia book. She will also have you laughing out loud, make your heart race and speed up your reading !!! Now, yes, this is a love story but it is a simple, young, innocent love story. It’s a story about a man that is very smitten with a young lady during a time where men were complete gentlmen and the ladies were very proper, however, the lady Robin is not 100% lady and Daniel is trying to be a complete gentleman.

In The Rebels of Cordovia Robin is every bit of a woman but also possesses the skills needed to fend for herself and others. As the title hints by using the word Rebels, the residents of Cordovia and surrounding areas begin to come together to de-throne the current King. This is how Robin and Daniel meet and begin their love story…..

Once you start reading this book, the story will take you away. You will be so engrossed with the story that your imagination will take you there ! Once you stop reading, you will be shocked that you aren’t actually right next to Robin in their quest.

The Rebels of Cordovia is like a fresh breath of air……it’s so refreshing you will want to take another breath….. I look forward to what the next book unravels. YES this is a series so when your ready The Highways of Cordovia will be waiting….. Reviewed by Missi S.

Enduring Trials

“The road is rough,” I said,

“Dear Lord, there are stones that hurt me so.”

And He said, “Dear child, I understand,

I walked it long ago.”

“But there is a cool green path,” I said.

“Let me walk there for a time.”

“No child,” He gently answered me,

The green road does not climb.”

“My burden,” I said, “is far too great,

How can I bare it so?”

“My child,” said He, “I remember its weight,

I carried my cross, you know.”

“But,” I said, “I wish there were friends with me

Who would make my way their own.”

“Ah, yes,” He said, “Gethsemane

Was hard to face alone.”

And so I climbed the stony path,

Content at last to know

That where my Master had not gone,

I would not need to go.

And strangely then I found new friends,

The burden grew less sore,

As I remembered long ago,

He went that way before.

We live in a world where we must endure trials, but we must realize that we grow from the many experiences we have in life. Eugene Hansen said, “I heard my father remark on more than one occasion, ‘I don’t mind being educated in the school of hard knocks—it’s the refresher courses I keep getting that are the trial.’” (W. Eugene Hansen, “Children and the Family”, Ensign, May 1998, 58)

Laughter is the Best Medicine

Searching for happiness is a big part of our life. We not only want it but we have an inner need and desire to spread joy to others. I notice that when I tell a funny story and make someone laugh, I wish I could tell another one. Laughter and smiles are contagious and spread from person to person.

“Humor helps keep life in perspective,” said Gary K. Palmer, a BYU professor. “When a person laughs, blood pressure decreases, heart rate and respiration increase, the body releases endorphins, and depression declines. After the laughter subsides and you relax again, that good feeling has a lasting effect, even until the next day. Not many medicines will do that.” (The Power of Laughter, Ensign, September 2007)”

A Tale of Fantasy, Mystery, and Romance

alliance-of-isian webThe main focus of this giveaway hop is to talk about “a book that you love.” This is definitely a book that I love. The romance is clean and can be read by all ages. In The Alliance of Isian, Isian decides to make an alliance with their long time enemies for a very good cause. So Isian sends a proposal, offering their daughter to the prince, in order to ensure an alliance. Princess Gabrielle and her new husband, Prince Alec must learn to work together and trust each other in order to triumph in the approaching war. With a mysterious beast attacking the kingdom, their lives in danger, and overcoming their vast cultural differences, will love grow despite their trials or tear them apart? Enjoy the fantasy, danger, mystery, and romance!

Cheryl Larson wrote: “I am quickly becoming a huge fan of Serena’s. I loved this book even more than the first one in the series. I am always intrigued by stories of arranged marriages and how they turn to marriages filled with love. These two characters had so much to overcome, coming from different cultures. Yet, they bravely took on the challenge because of the love they had for the people who they ruled over. There is plenty of action and intrigue in the storyline. I lost quite a bit of sleep reading way too late into the night. I love the characters. I want to know even more about their lives. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!”

This is the second book in The Isian Series. When we think of fantasy, we think of magic and mythical creatures, but it is not the same without some romance to add to the mixture.

The Alliance of Isian was one of the best romances I’ve read. Why? Gabrielle is a strong character and I could feel the emotions she was experiencing. I could feel her frustration in being forced to marry someone she did not know, and whose background was totally so different from her own. Alec is likewise a strong character and has his definite opinions, but he is also very sensitive to Gabrielle’s feelings of inadequacy in marrying a stranger. As time passes, I could see the respect they gradually develop for each another and how they learn to understand one another’s differences. They learn to accept one another’s faults and failings. I noticed the change in both characters, a change for the better, as Gabrielle and Alec fall in love.

Three Children’s Bedtime Stories from Audible

Most people listen to audiobooks while exercising or traveling, but now children can enjoy audiobooks as well. This children’s audiobook is for ages three to eight. As the narrator reads this book, it’s easy to picture the characters interacting with one another, bringing the story to life as your child listens to the dynamics of the narrator. With narrator, Heidi Allred, she draws your child into the story and helps him or her feel part of the adventure.

Inishowen Cailín, an audiobook reviewer from Ireland wrote: “This is a lovely book for your child to listen to at night especially if they are in any way anxious at bedtime. The stories talk through some of the most common fears little children have; scary shadows and noises, and explains them away in a cute and fun way. I also loved how the mother sang a little hymn to lull the child to sleep at the end of each story, as a signal that it was time to sleep. I can imagine that with repeated listening a child would naturally pick up on this cue as well.”

Shadows webIn each of these stories, a mother helps her little girl understand her fears at night. In Shadows In My Room, Kayla sees shadows in her room that disturb her. Her mother answers all her questions about each shadow that she point to and helps her to calm down. In What’s That Noise, Amber hears noises that disturb her such as the wind and thunder. Her mother teaches Amber to use her imagination by turning something fearful into something fun. In I’m Not Sleepy, Cason finds every way possible to get out of going to bed, telling her that he isn’t sleepy.

Was it difficult to listen to this audiobook without a picture book?

Donna Cochran says: “Not having the book to look at the pictures, I wasn’t sure about how much I would like it. But I’m happy to say that I was impressed! With the author’s words and the voices of the narrator, I didn’t need the book. The words flowed with emotion and fun. I look forward to more from Linda Weaver Clarke and Heidi Allred.”

The Rebel Series–Stories of Love and Liberty

The Rebel Series is about love and liberty that takes place between the 18th and 19th Century.

There was a time when swashbuckling men and brave women engaged in daring and romantic adventures, those who fought with bravery and valor. These courageous men and women were looked up to because they defended the people.

“This creative take on a Robin Hood-like story is charming and touching, and teaches some great morals about agency and choice. It reminded me of childhood fairytales of good versus evil, with a nice romance weaved into it.” –Author Charissa Stastny

Rebels of Cordovia webIn The Rebels of Cordovia, a group of men and women who called themselves Robin’s Rebels realize they must help the people survive this oppression. In this battle for freedom, a love story begins to blossom. Daniel, a rogue and a leader of the Freemen, doesn’t realize that the sweet feminine woman he has met and is falling for happens to be the leader of Robin’s Rebels. Realizing the importance of uniting all the rebel groups, Daniel tries to recruit Robin’s Rebels but they refuse. Now he has to find a way to convince them. When he finds out the leader is actually a woman, what will his reaction be?

After reading this story, Susan Ortlieb from Suko’s Notebook Reviews wrote: “Linda Weaver Clarke writes with passion and grace, and the love story in this book is simply wonderful. In fact, this aspect of the story was the strongest draw for me. (Are love stories set in the past more romantic than those set in the present day?) I thought that Robin and Daniel sounded perfect for each other, and I enjoyed the steady development of their relationship. This charming book was a pleasure to read, and I relished it.”

highwaymanwebThe tales from The Rebel Series have adventure, sweet romance, and delectable kisses. These are stories of love and liberty that takes place between the 18th and 19th Century. In the sequel, The Highwayman of Cordovia, the people enjoy their new-found liberty but all is not well. One year after Cordovia gains its freedom, a group of powerful men plan to take over the small country and replace the leader with a king.

With the help of a bold highwayman and a pastor’s daughter, they try to save their country from being taken over by a power-hungry leader. As they strive to stop the Kingmen and thwart their plans, Christine finds herself falling in love with Austin Knight. The only problem with their relationship is that she thinks he is her knight in shining armor instead of a highwayman. If she finds out his trade, what will her reaction be? As a pastor’s daughter, will love override her values?

“Linda Weaver Clarke has a storyteller’s talent for enchanting and mesmerizing the audience. There are also some exciting surprises and twists that will delight the heart. Definitely a must read!” –Cindi Clubbs, Mommasez Reviews

A Cozy Mystery from Audible: Mystery on the Bayou

audiobook-bayouIn this cozy mystery audiobook, you will visit Louisiana, which happens to be the land of bayous! How many of you have eaten crawdads, jambalaya, gumbo, and alligator? Have you seen the lovely swamps and Spanish moss hanging from the trees? In Mystery on the Bayou, you will experience it along with Rick and Amelia, two private eyes, who specialize in missing persons.

“I absolutely love this series! Rick and Amelia are adorable together and I enjoy their relationship more now that they’re married. They still flirt with and tease each other and continue to work on their bucket lists. The mystery holds my attention and keeps me guessing at what’s going on. I love the various places they travel so I feel like I get away for a little while. I’m looking forward to their next case!” –Melanie Valderrama, Mel’s Shelves

In Mystery on the Bayou, Amelia is approached by a woman who is concerned about the son she gave up for adoption sixteen years ago. Millie has been having nightmares that make her fear he is in danger. She petitioned the court to view the sealed records but was refused. Will Amelia and Rick be able to convince the courts to help them? If her son is in danger, will they get there in time?

“I love the clean romance between Rick and Amelia. Even though they’re married now, there’s plenty of flirting and cuteness. They are an adorable couple. They complement each other nicely, both in personality and in work traits. I love the way this author is able to weave an interesting tale in different settings, causing the reader to feel both a part of the story and a part of where ever the mystery is set. The mystery is cozy, not on-the-edge intense, yet it flows well and at a good, steady pace. I’m always excited to see what Ms. Clarke comes up with next!” — Katie Watkins, Katies Clean Book Collection

As you follow Amelia in search for a missing teenager, you will also learn about Marfan’s Syndrome. You will find that it’s not as rare as many think. Author Linda Baten Johnson wrote: “Linda Weaver Clarke always provides a sweet romantic story, but one that teaches too. The subject matter in this book is Marfan’s Syndrome and the story is set partially in Louisiana. I lived there for several years and Clarke’s description of the bayous and the food made me want to return.”

The books in this series are The Bali Mystery, The Shamrock Case, The Missing Heir, The Mysterious Doll, Her Lost Love, Mystery on the Bayou, and The Lighthouse Secret. For more information, visit
